Distorted Reality
She’s prepared a delicious meal:
for tonight her daughter is home;
Yet as she sets the table,
she knows she’ll be dining alone.
The Teenager calls from her bedroom,
”I’m not hungry, but thank you Mom”;
It’s an answer she’s heard a hundred times,
and she knows that something is wrong.
No matter what she prepares,
her daughter will not take a bite;
A choice that up until lately,
would have surely incited a fight
Her heart begins to silently cry,
as she hears her little girl’s voice;
She remembers what the Doctor said,
“Her death will be her own choice.
Your’ daughter is Anorexic”,
And she questioned, “How can that be;
She’s smaller now than in grade school,
When she only weighed ninety-three”.
“Anorexia Nervosas,
is an understood, deadly Disease;
Your’ daughter thinks herself to be fat,
even though her bone’s can be seen.
I could admit her to the Hospital,
and force feed her through a tube;
But unless she truly wants to seek help
there is little that we can do”.
The Mother snaps back to reality,
for her daughter she once again Prays;
Who is obsessed with being thin,
her life is the price she will pay.
